Shaping young lives and transforming families so they can thrive since 1890.
GATEWAYS for Youth and Families programs and facilities are located on Dyslin Ranch, halfway between Tacoma and Puyallup in Pierce County, Washington and serves the Community with the same pioneering spirit, innovation and common-sense solutions since 1890. Our Founding Mothers first incorporated the organization as the Lend A Hand League and later we became known as the Children's Industrial Home and Jessie Dyslin Ranch. We were dedicated by our founders to improving the lives of young women, families, and disadvantaged or ill-treated children and youth. The focus of our work has always been on educating and preparing people to be self sufficient. Over time our services have included clinics, schools, gymnasiums, nurseries and dormitories built for the children at the Home on the Hill, housing for the young mothers at the White Shield House, a place to learn work skills at the Girls Club and Dyslin Ranch, residential treatment centers for emotionally disturbed youth and licensed foster homes for children placed in state custody. We still support foster care through our work with the Foster Parents Association and, although we do not manage residential facilities for foster children or disturbed youth, our center for Transitional Age Youth is designed specificially for young people leaving foster care or in destablized situations. We also host summer camps and special events for children, run an early education center, hold weekly educational seminars and manage a visitation and safe exchange center for parents who have a history of conflict and a desire to learn to co-parent without court intervention. We welcome new members, volunteers and partners to aid us in our work.
