Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Corban University was founded in 1935.
What is your primary product or service?
graduate training for ministry
(Salem campus also offers over 50 undergraduate programs, and several grad programs in Counseling, Education, and Business)
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I recognized I was a sinner in need of a Savior and believed that the Lord Jesus Christ came to die in my place on the cross, that he was buried and that he rose again. This good news revolutionized my life, and I want to spend the rest of my days sharing this good news with others so their lives can be forever changed, too.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are doing all we can to take ministry training to the front lines of ministry. We offer classes in Tacoma, in Salem and online to meet a wide variety of student needs.
Our faculty members have served in a variety of ministry capacities and are not only knowledgeable about the Word of God, but about how to apply it in many cross-cultural contexts.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have two locations (Tacoma, WA and Salem, OR) as well as an online program (fall 2011 start date). We also have a partnership with a school in Indonesia. We desire to expand our ministry as the Lord leads.
Provide detailed directions to your location
The Tacoma location is currently in the old Weyerhaeuser Mansion in the North End of Tacoma, but we are planning to sell our campus and move closer to Seattle on the I-5 corridor. Check out our website for details on our location (www.corban.edu/ministry).
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept cash, checks, credit cards and Federal Financial Aid. We also offer some scholarship options. Check with the Financial Aid Office or the Business Office for details.
Which areas do you service?
On-campus classes are available in the Tacoma/Seattle area and in the Salem area. However, with our online programs, we can servee anyone in the world who wants an excellent education in ministry.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Our president is Dr. Reno Hoff. Our Provost is Dr. Matt Lucas.
On the Tacoma/Seattle campus, Dr. Leroy Goertzen is our Administrator.
What are your hours of operation?
The main office is generally open from 9am to 5pm. Our latest course schedule can be found on our website, or by contacting Admissions (CUSM@corban.edu).
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
God is glorified through you!
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (NIV)
