Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We started our specialty plant and landscape nursery in late 1998. We are not a general nursary but specialize in Japanese, Chinese and Asian style gardens.
What is your primary product or service?
Almost anything to do with an Asian garden. We carry over 80 species of bamboo, stone ware, Asian garden bells, rain cups, rain chains, imported bamboo poles, Buddist Pray Wheels, bamboo fencing in all sizes and bonsai. We design, install and maintain Asian style gardens. We now carry plants and trees that are used in the Japanese and Chinese garden. In 2009 we plan to sell koi fish.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
While stationed in Vietnam some 40 years ago I became fasinated with the large and many species of bamboo. In 1986 I began my collection of bamboos that are hardy here in the Pacific Northwest.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Well, we are not a general nursery! We specialize in the Asian theme in gardening and landscaping. The Pacific Northwest is an ideal area in which our niche nursery thrives. We are the only nursery in this area that specializes in Asian plants and products.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We presently have one large nursery covering about two acres. Recently we purchased an adjoining piece of property with a little over an acre. Our first order of business was to build and install a bamboo fence 100 feet long with 6 X 6 posts. See photos.
